A born and raised Hoosier, Dr. Barbara Schroeder brings over 31 years of experience and medical expertise to her patients at Northeast Ophthalmology. An American Board of Ophthalmology certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Schroeder is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology and member and past president of the Fort Wayne Medical Society.
Dr. Schroeder obtained her Bachelor of Arts in French and Biology from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and a Medical Degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Ind. She continued her ophthalmology studies at West Virginia University serving as a Department of Medicine interm and afterwards completing an ophthalmology residency through Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.V., with an emphasis on primary care and comprehensive ophthalmology.
Specialties and focuses include cataract surgery, diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.
Throughout her 31 years of experience Dr. Schroeder has gained recognition for her contribution and expertise in the field of ophthalmology. In both 2005 and 2008 Dr. Schroeder was named "Top Doc" by Fort Wayne Business Journal as well as "Top Doc" in 2008 by Upstate Indiana. She was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of the Rotary Club International.
Dr. Schroeder was also named the 2009 Humanitarian Ophthalmologist of the Year by the Indiana Academy of Ophthalmology for her humanitarian work performing cataract surgeries on medical mission trips to Mexico and for donating her professional services to the Matthew 25 eye clinic.
